In lieu of gifts, two Hun School students asked for donations support Lawrenceville Elementary School’s garden for their 16th birthdays.

Juniors Gwyneth Lewis and Olivia Hartman received $870 in cash donations and an assortment of child-sized gardening tools.

Lewis was a CARE (Children Acting Responsibly Everyday) Kid while in third grade at LES and wanted to help strengthen the gardening program. Hartman, who lives on a farm, wanted students to experience the rewards of raising crops from seedlings to produce.

LES’ gardening program has been recognized with a Promising Practice Award from Character Education Partnership, and also received Honorable Mention recognition in 2012.
