Garrett Monfre of Lawrence Township has earned the highest advancement award from the Boy Scouts of America, the Eagle Scout Award. A member of Troop 28, Monfre is one of approximately 4 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank. A formal ceremony and dinner were held on August 16, 2015 to celebrate his achievement.

Each Eagle candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church, or synagogue-related service project to earn Eagle rank. Monfre chose to design and build a walking bridge in the Curlis Lake Woods Preserve in Pennington.

As a member of Troop 28, Monfre has served as Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Order of the Arrow Troop Representative and Senior Patrol Leader. He currently serves as Junior Assistant Scoutmaster for the Troop. He is also a member of the Order of the Arrow (OA), the national honor society of BSA, and attended National Youth Leadership Training, sponsored by BSA. In addition, he has earned his Advanced Open Water SCUBA certification at Emerald Bay Scout Camp on Catalina Island and has attended Sea Base, a high-adventure Scout camp located in the Florida Keys.

Monfre joins other outstanding citizens who have become Eagle Scouts, among them former President Gerald R. Ford, Jr., astronaut Neil A. Armstrong, cinematographer Steven Spielberg, former F.B.I. Director William Sessions, former Mayor Michael Bloomberg and television host Mike Rowe.

Monfre is a 12th-grader at Princeton Day School. He is the son of Stephen and Dorothy Monfre of Lawrence Township.

Troop 28 is open to boys who have completed fifth grade, and meets Friday nights from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Troop Hut at Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church.
