Silva Gallery seeks entries for photography exhibit

“Threshing Wheat” by Jay J. Brandinger won Best in Show at the Mercer County Photography 2013 exhibit.

The Silva Gallery of Art at The Pennington School is currently seeking entries for the the Mercer County Photography 2015 exhibit. The gallery is located at 112 West Delaware Avenue in Pennington.

Mercer County Photography 2015 is open to all artists, eighteen years or older, currently living, attending school, or employed in Mercer County. Images must have been created within the past three years utilizing photographic processes including black and white photography, color photography, non-silver processes, book art and computer-processed photography.

This exhibit is supported in part by Mercer County Culture and Heritage Division, through a grant from the NJ State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Silva Gallery of Art will accept hand-delivered work on August 29 between 9:30 a.m. and 12 noon. The entry fee is $10 for each entry, up to two entries per individual. To download the full prospectus, please visit pennington.org/arts/silva-gallery-of-art.

Having graduated with a BFA in Photographic Arts & Sciences from New York’s School of Visual Arts, this year’s juror, Peter Cook, continued to pursue a deep-seated interest in portrait photography, mentored by Arnold Newman and Ralph Gibson. Since then he has freelanced for a number of clients and publications including Columbia Journalism Review, The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker and Portuguese editions of VIP and Maxima. Cook has exhibited at the Visual Arts Gallery in Soho, Pleiades Gallery in Chelsea, Kelly Writers House at the University of Pennsylvania, Monmouth Museum, Barron Arts Center, and the William Carlos Williams Center. He has conducted seminars in the photographic portrait at Franklin & Marshall College, Philadelphia College of Art, and Princeton University. Peter Cook is currently department head of analogue photography at the Arts Council of Princeton.

The exhibition to follow will open on September 9, and continue through October 9, 2015. An opening reception will be held on Wednesday, September 9, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. During the awards ceremony, to begin at 5:45, monetary and merit awards will include Best in Show, Juror’s Choice, Honorable Mentions, Mercer County Purchase Awards, as well as a Princeton Photography Club Award in Memory of Ann Mark.
