The Mercer County Park Commission is partnering with REI Co-op to host a variety of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors in the county’s parks. #OptOutside will take place on Black Friday, Nov. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Mercer Meadows and Baldpate Mountain.

Take a break from Black Friday shopping with REI’s #OptOutside movement where participants can choose from a scavenger hunt in Mercer Meadows and a challenging hike at Baldpate Mountain.

Visit the new Historic Hunt Barn between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. to pick up your Mercer Meadows “Choose Your Own Adventure” passport. This adventure is designed for any fitness or interest level including families. Hunt for clues in the Meadows for the opportunity to win one of three amazing prizes including backpacks and hiking gear from REI or Nature Programs T-shirts. All completed passports must be returned by 4 p.m. for prize drawing. The Historic Hunt Barn is located at 197 Blackwell Road, Pennington.

Participants looking for a more challenging adventure can head over to Baldpate Mountain for the five-mile hike challenge, which is designed for adults and older youth. Maps for the course will be available at the Fiddlers Creek parking lot kiosk. Meet up with volunteer trail guides at 1 p.m. in the Fiddlers Creek parking lot and hike with a group, or take on the challenge with a group of your own. Baldpate Mountain is located at 28 Fiddlers Creek Road, Titusville.

These programs are free and open to the public. For more information, call (609) 303-0706 or email natureprograms@mercercounty.org. For directions to Baldpate Mountain or Mercer Meadows, visit mercercountyparks.org.
