Mercer County has received nearly $1 million in state funding for an inclusive playground at Rosedale Park.
The grant, awarded by the state Department of Environmental Protection, will be used to help complete the construction of a fully inclusive playground at the Hopewell Township park.
The funding was part of a broader investment announced by the Murphy Administration on April 25, targeting recreational and accessibility improvements across the state.
The Rosedale Park project will create an ADA-accessible playground that supports sensory play and inclusive interaction for children and caretakers of all abilities.
Planned features include accessible swings, musical instruments, chimes, a seesaw, sensory boards, and a quiet play area. Additional upgrades will include new shade structures, benches, native landscaping, and perimeter fencing.
The project also includes the installation of a walking path for ADA access, modifications to create a family-friendly accessible restroom, and reconfiguration of the existing parking lot to improve ADA accommodations.
“I am thrilled that Mercer County will be receiving nearly $1 million allocated under Jake’s Law, which I co-sponsored in the State Assembly, to build a completely inclusive playground at Rosedale Park in Hopewell Township,” said Mercer County Executive Dan Benson.
“Every child, regardless of their ability, deserves the joy that comes from spending time at the playground with friends and family, and we expect the new Rosedale Park playground to become a valued destination for families across the County,” Benson said.
