Dancing and diving in the darkening summer skies, New Jersey’s bats are hard at work. The Mercer County Park Commission invites you to attend the “Bats of the Marsh” program on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. The walk will take place at the Tulpehaking Nature Center located at 157 Westcott Avenue in Hamilton.
Visitors will learn about these amazing and beneficial creatures that live in our midst and how they can help bats remain an important part of our night sky.
During the program, local bat biologist MacKenzie Hall will introduce her audience to the fascinating world of bats in a brief presentation before leading the group on a twilight walk to explore the bats inhabiting the marsh. To aid in this evening excursion, Hall will bring her bat detector along. This piece of equipment lowers the sounds bats use to communicate into frequencies humans can hear, allowing visitors to hear the flurry of activity as bats hunt in the night sky.
The program costs $5 per person or $20 per family. Registration is required; please call (609) 303-0706. Participants are advised to bring a flashlight and insect repellent.
