The First Presbyterian Church of Hamilton Square is commemorating its 250th anniversary this year with a special luncheon on Oct. 19 to celebrate its service to the community, along with past and present members.
The church, led by Rev. Kyle Doebler, has 350 members. It has also become known for community events including its annual rummage sales, The Young Wonders Preschool, the annual Election Day Lasagna Dinner and its community music program.
“For more than 250 years, this congregation has been putting its faith in action, loving and serving the God we know in Jesus Christ by loving and serving our neighbors in Hamilton Square and beyond. As we look to our next 250 years of being a congregation that’s not just in Hamilton Square, but for Hamilton Square, we are committed to keeping the transforming love and grace of Jesus at the center of everything we do,” Doebler says.
The church has a strong mission-based philosophy and participates in a variety of community services, from building house frames in the church parking lot with Habitat for Humanity to serving meals at the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen. The church is planning its first service day this year on Sunday, Oct. 12, where church members will have a chance to participate in a variety of service opportunities in Hamilton.
The church also administers Ginny’s Pantry, in partnership with Christ Presbyterian Church in Hamilton and United Presbyterian Church in Yardville. The pantry distributes a family-size food bag and shelf staples such as cereal, milk and juice to families in need. It is housed at Christ Presbyterian. Volunteers from all three churches work through the month to collect, organize, and prepare bags in advance of Pantry Day, and distribute those bags the second Thursday of each month.
