Lalor Elementary School hosted its first Hispanic Heritage Celebration Oct. 10,

The event was held in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which is observed Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.

Lalor students and their families were asked to bring a dish from their respective country to be shared potluck style. Each country’s table was decorated with symbolic artifacts.

Families represented Ecuador, Peru, Costa Rica, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Poland and Italy were in attendance.

Councilwoman Ileana Schirmer, who is Cuban-American, and Councilman David Kenny graciously joined in the fun and spent time eating and laughing with the Lalor students and their families.

The children moved to the rhythms of the Latin music and danced the night away.
