Lalor Elementary fifth grade teacher Melanie Coate teachers her class how to pick out the right book to read using the Daily Five Literacy Block. The students are using the analogy of picking the right shoes when learning how to pick out a book that is appropriate to their interest and reading level.

The Daily Five is a structure designed to help students develop the daily habits of reading, writing, and working independently that will lead to a lifetime of literacy independence.
