Henry Angelucci, Jr. is not your typical insurance agent.

He describes himself as “first and foremost a Knight of Columbus, then a benefits agent.” He joined the organization in 2009, after his father died. At the time, he was a full-time electrician—he’s still a member of the IBEW—but he was looking for something more spiritual and service-oriented to do in his life.

A member of Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic parish, Angelucci liked being a Knight so much he looked into being an electrician for the church. But in 2012, after 15 years as an electrician, he became a Knights of Columbus insurance agent instead.

It’s been a successful move. Angelucci was named the Knights of Columbus Agent of the Year in 2013 and 2014 in the Central and South Jersey regions. In 2014, Angelucci was named the top Knights of Columbus insurance agent in New Jersey.

Angelucci said he take a very laid-back approach to being an insurance agent.

“I’m myself,” Angelucci said. “I don’t try to sell anything to anyone.”

He works out of his home, where he lives with his wife and four children. He meets with people in their homes at times that are most convenient for them. During the first appointment, he tries to get to know his clients. He often uncovers needs for people.

“I hear their life story,” Angelucci said. “I go through some information with them and come back.”

Knights of Columbus Insurance offers life insurance annuities, long term care and disability insurance protection plans exclusively to members of the Knights of Columbus. In Mercer County, there are more than 1,000 Knights of Columbus. The Knights of Columbus is the largest Catholic lay organization in the world. They were founded in 1882 to take care of widows and orphans, a mission still close to the heart of the organization.

Angelucci said the Knights are always looking for Catholic men to join the organization, adding, “if you only have one hour a year to give to the Knights of Columbus, we can change your life for the good.”

Angelucci volunteers as a Eucharistic minister at OLS, and runs his parish’s annual golf tournament. He volunteers for the KofC councils he serves in Hamilton, Lawrence, Ewing, Trenton and Plainsboro.

One of the benefits to joining the Knights is the ability to purchase their insurance, Angelucci said.

“We are the highest-rated insurance company in America because we are a fraternal,” he said. “We don’t have the overhead most financial security companies have in America.”

He is a member of the Million Dollar Round Table, an honor given to the top 1 percent of all financial insurance agents in the world. He considers the honor even more prestigious since he can only sell to Knights of Columbus members. He is a Fraternal Insurance Counselor and a member of the Supreme Knights Club.

“I love what I do,” Angelucci said. “I put my heart and soul into it. I check in on everyone, even if there is nothing they need. Maybe I just make them smile. I love meeting people.”
