A Hamilton man has been charged with murder in the death of his girlfriend.

Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey and Hamilton Police Chief Kenneth R. DeBoskey said Carlos Pean, 29, was arrested following an investigation by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Hamilton Police Division.

Pean is charged with first-degree murder. He was taken into custody March 28, 2026, in Tinton Falls by members of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Special Investigations Unit.

Authorities have filed a motion to detain Pean pending trial.

Police were initially dispatched at approximately 7 a.m. March 24 to an apartment in the first block of Bradford Avenue to conduct a welfare check.

Officers located Adeline Alfred, 29, unresponsive in a bedroom.

Officials said she was the victim of an apparent physical assault and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Mercer County Homicide Task Force Detective Dawid Modzelewski at 609-989-6406 or submit anonymous tips at mercercountyprosecutor.com.

Despite having been charged, every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
