The Teal Tea Foundation helped support ovarian cancer research at its seventh annual fundraiser at the Stone Terrace by John Henry on May 5.

In the past six years, the foundation has donated over more than $20,000 to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition and $40,000 for research. They have awarded grants to Dr. Denise Connolly and Dr. Eric A. Ariazi of the Fox Chase Cancer Center and Dr. Lorna Rodriguez of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey. The foundation has also supported the research of Dr. Elyce Cardonick of the Cooper Cancer Institute.

The annual Teal Tea is known for its table decorating competition. This year, table captains were challenged to interpret the theme “Inspire Awareness Across the Deep Teal Seas.”

Pat Patrizio and Frank Rios won first prize for Best Centerpiece; they decorated their table with pearls that belonged to their sister who died of cancer. Former Teal Tea president Shari Widmayer won second place for her jellyfish creation.

Co-captains Patricia Kovacs, Linda DiJacklin and Diane Niebudek won first place for Best in Show, Best Interpretation of Theme and Table Captains’ Choice. They also won second place for Best Use of Teal.

Carol Pitts and Robin Davis won first place for Best Use of Teal.

After leading a hat parade around the room, Parade Mistress Sherri Waryasz was crowned Miss Teal.

The eighth annual Teal Tea is scheduled for May 4, 2014 at the Stone Terrace.

Other upcoming events s include At the Hop by Showtime Charities set for Sept. 30 and Bingo set for Nov. 8.
