Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler announced the Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit located a 22-year-old male, missing from his residence on the evening of Sept. 1
At about 10:30 p.m., the Ewing Police Department requested the assistance of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit to help locate a distraught male who ran away from his residence in the area of Van Duyn Drive, Ewing.
After an approximate two-hour search, Sheriff’s Office bloodhound named Maverick and his handler Sheriff’s Officer David Smithson, along with Sheriff’s Officers Pat Papero and Thomas Sweeney tracked the subject for over three miles and located him in a roadside ditch, near the intersection of Washington Crossing Road and Reed Road.
The subject was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center Fuld Campus for treatment and reunited with his family.
Established in 1993, The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit serves as an added component of law enforcement to assist local towns and municipalities on a moment’s notice. The K-9 teams generally average over 150 assignments per year.
