The Villa Victoria Academy challenged the members of its Young Engineers Club to design and build a bridge to step some friendly gnomes efficiently take their goods to market.

The club, which focuses on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), met for four weeks to work through the engineering process.

Photos of actual bridges were available for discussion and inspiration before plans were drawn up. Once the design process was complete, the students built their bridge from recycled materials they had collected. At the end of the project, each team tested and presented to parents and friends their finished product.

Club members were honored to have special guest Linda Burroughs, Assistant Professor of Elementary and Early Childhood Education at The College of New Jersey, attend the presentation on March 19. Ms. Burroughs, who teaches science in the EECE program, shared feedback and encouragement with club members after their presentations.
