Ewing residents are being invited to lace up their sneakers and help mark a historic milestone with a yearlong wellness challenge celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.

Mayor Bert Steinmann, the Ewing Health Department, the Ewing Recreation Department — including Ewing Seniors — and the Ewing Green Team have announced the 250 for 250 Challenge, a free virtual walk/run encouraging participants to log 250 miles during 2026.

The challenge coincides with the nation’s semiquincentennial, marking 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Participants can complete the miles anytime between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2026, at their own pace and in any location.

The program is entirely virtual and operates on the honor system. Miles may be logged while walking or running on sidewalks, park paths, trails, treadmills, tracks or during everyday activities such as errands or neighborhood walks.

Organizers said the initiative is designed to promote health, wellness and community engagement while giving residents a flexible and accessible way to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime national celebration.

Registration for the Ewing 250’s Virtual Challenge opens Dec. 21 and remains open through the end of 2026. Participants can submit mileage at any time during the year through RunSignUp.

More information and registration details are available at runsignup.com/Race/NJ/Ewing/Ewing25Challenge.
