The Ewing Green Team is set to hold it’s first annual Scarecrow Contest this October.

All scarecrows must be constructed of at least 80% recycled, reclaimed, and/or reused materials. Materials like glue, nails, string or other means of attaching items will count toward the allowable 20% new materials. The scarecrows most be between four and five feet talk without a stake and 2 to 4 feet wide.

Scarecrows must also be named to help describe or identify the creative theme.

Judging will take place on October 25 at 2 p.m. at the Ewing Community Gardens at Whitehead Road Extension. The judges will be Mayor Bert Steinmann along with members of the Ewing Arts Commission. There will be cash prizes of $100, $50 and $25 for first, second and third places respectively.

Winners will be judged on originality, artistry and the creative use of recycled materials.

The contest is open to all Ewing individuals, school groups, families, youth groups, service clubs and business groups.

Participants must register by October 20 and all entries must be delivered to the Ewing Community Gardens on October 24 between 4 and 8 p.m.

Scarecrows will remain at the gardens until November 15. They should be picked up after that time. Scarecrows not picked up by November 22 will be discarded for recycling.
