East meets Far East at East Sushi

But at East Sushi at 43 Scotch Road, you can get food from two traditions under one roof. The restaurant has served Chinese and Japanese cuisine, for take out or eating in a 140-seat dining room, for eight years. Owner Ben Xu bought the restaurant in 2003. Now, he runs it with a veteran staff. “It’s like a family,” he said. “All my workers have been here a lot of years.” Xu’s family has always been in the restaurant business. He grew up spending time in restaurants with his family in New York City and Virginia. The mainstay of East Sushi is a full menu of traditional Chinese fare. New specials make the menu several times a week. Xu’s personal favorite is the Pig on Fire, a shredded pork dish served with green peppers. The other side of the business is the full sushi bar, where you can order sushi or sashimi prepared in front of you by a trained sushi chef. Though take-out is available, the emphasis of East Sushi is the full-service dine-in area. East Sushi attracts a lunchtime crowd of business people from the nearby office parks as well as state workers from the Department of Transportation offices. Xu bought the business seeing Ewing’s potential for growth; and he still believes more business is in the township’s future.
