The Beth El Synagogue Genealogy Club is set to host guest speaker Dr. Stephen Morse on Thursday, July 9 at 7:30 p.m. Morse will discuss “The Julian Calendar and Why We Need to Know About It” at the synagogue located at 50 Maple Stream Road, East Windsor.

The Julian calendar is important to historians because it was used worldwide for over 16 centuries and in various parts of the world for another three centuries. The calendar was used to record events in many countries as recently as the early 1900’s. This presentation will explain the workings of the Julian calendar and the reforms that were made to convert it to the more accurate Gregorian calendar. The implications of the reforms will also be discussed and the problems that they can cause for genealogists and historians.

Please call the Synagogue Office with any questions (609) 443-4454 or visit bethel.net.
