Younity (formerly Womanspace) is seeking volunteers to join the Response Teams of Mercer County as trained advocates for individuals experiencing domestic and sexual violence.
These volunteers provide immediate crisis intervention, emotional support, and resource referrals to victim-survivors in coordination with local law enforcement.
Volunteer advocates respond to calls from police stations, hospitals, and other community locations where immediate support is needed. They play a critical role in helping individuals navigate their next steps by offering information on available services, such as emergency shelter, legal advocacy, and counseling. Advocates must complete a comprehensive training program to prepare for the complexities of crisis response.
Younity’s training program consists of 64 hours of instruction covering topics including domestic violence, sexual assault, trauma-informed care, and crisis intervention strategies. Training sessions will take place from March 18 through May 3, 2025, with a combination of virtual and in-person meetings. Upon completion, volunteers will be equipped to provide confidential support to victim-survivors in Mercer County.
Advocates must be at least 18 years old, have access to reliable transportation, and be able to commit to on-call shifts as part of the Response Teams. Applications are open through February 25, 2025. Interested individuals can apply online. Questions can be directed to responseteamstraining@younitynj.org.
Founded in 1977, Younity (formerly Womanspace) is a nonprofit organization serving Mercer County and the state of New Jersey by providing emergency and long-term support to individuals affected by domestic and sexual violence.
