Yet again, WW-P ‘s schools received good marks on the annual School Report Cards, released this week by the state Department of Education. The 2007-08 proficiency scores assess students in grades three through eight and those taking the High School Proficiency Assessments in grade 11.
Compared with other districts in the same economic factor group around the state, West Windsor-Plainsboro students seem to surpass or be on par with students from other districts like them.
In the district’s elementary schools, 80.1 percent of third graders were proficient in language arts, while 15.7 percent were advanced. In math, 31.1 percent of the third graders were proficient in math, while 63.5 percent were advanced.
In the fourth grade, 84.2 percent of the district’s students were proficient in language arts, while 10.1 percent were advanced. In math, 30.9 percent of the district’s fourth graders were proficient in math, while 63 percent were advanced. Also in the fourth grade, 31.5 percent of students tested proficient in the NJASK4 science, while 63.3 percent are advanced.
In the fifth grade, 72.8 percent of the district’s students tested proficient in language arts, while 14.6 percent tested advanced. In math, In math, 33.5 percent of students tested proficient and 56.3 percent were advanced.
In the district’s middle schools, 76.1 percent of sixth graders were found to be proficient in the area of language arts, based on the NJASK6 assessment tests. The number of sixth graders who are advanced in language arts was 6.5 percent.
Sixth graders fared even better in math literacy, where 44.2 percent of the district’s sixth graders tested to be proficient, and 47.8 percent tested to be advanced, higher than the average percentage (42.2 percent) of students in other similar districts who are advanced. Only 8 percent of the district’s sixth graders exhibited partial proficiency.
The district’s seventh graders scored high levels of advanced proficiency in both language arts and math. In language arts, 46.8 percent of the district’s seventh graders were proficient, and 45.3 percent were advanced. In math, 34.3 percent were efficient, and 51.9 percent were advanced.
In the eighth grade, 59.2 percent of students in the district were proficient in language arts, and 36.2 percent were advanced. In math, 31.3 percent were proficient, and 60 percent were advanced.
In the district’s high schools, 69.4 percent of 11th graders tested proficient in the language arts section of the High School Proficiency Assessment test, while 25 percent scored advanced proficiency. In math, the 32.4 percent of 11th graders were proficient, while 59 percent were advanced.
