West Windsor-Plainsboro Municipal Alliance for the Prevention of Alcoholism & Drug Abuse was presented with an outstanding achievement award for outstanding efforts to reduce substance abuse. Marcia Smith Fleres, WW-P alliance coordinator, accepted the award at the Mercer County Alliance dinner at Mercer Oaks in West Windsor. A Plainsboro resident, she is a certified prevention specialist.
Michael Arons of Plainsboro was presented with the Mercer County Alliance Volunteer of the Year award by Edward “Chip” Meara, the Mercer County Alliance coordinator.
WW-P Municipal Alliance, a volunteer organization, includes representatives from the police, schools, recreation departments, community organizations, nonprofits, parents, and interested residents.
The alliance encourages healthy and drug-free lifestyles, and provides information and education on the prevention and treatment of problems caused by alcohol and other drugs. Prevention programs include D.A.R.E., Footprints for Life, Post Prom, Attitudes in Reverse, Eighth Grade Connection, and community education and awareness. Funding is provided by the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism & Drug Abuse, Plainsboro Township, West Windsor Township, and charitable donations.
