The West Windsor Planning Board finished up discussions on the Master Plan re-examination report on June 11 and is scheduled to vote whether to approve it on Wednesday, June 18.##M:[more]##
Discussions during the June 11 meeting centered around the possibility of establishing local historic preservation districts, for areas like Dutch Neck and Grovers Mill, said Planning Board Chairman Marvin Gardner. The recommendation calls for the districts to be designated sometime in the future, with parameters with regard to architecture and other characteristics of each neighborhood. The Berrien City neighborhoods and surrounding communities may also be placed into six additional local historic districts.
The board also discussed the possibility of creating convenience centers in areas where Princeton University owns land within the township, including some sections of Harrison Street. “The thought was to create a sort of village atmosphere in the Harrison Street area that would include a range of opportunities,” Gardner said. “It would be to create more of a mixed-use retail type of development that would meet the needs of residents in Canal Point as well as meet the potential of Princeton University land that might serve” the needs of the graduate students living in that area, he added.
“All of these are points to perhaps include and to direct at some appropriate time in the future that the township staff look into the possibilities of doing something like this,” Gardner said. “There has been no amendment being made to the Master Plan itself.” He said the only way these changes would take place in the future is if they are deemed beneficial to the township.
