The Township Council has renewed liquor licenses for a number of retail establishments in town, as required every year.
During the June 13 meeting, the council renewed licenses for McCaffrey’s Wine & Spirits, Wegmans, Trader Joe’s, The Bog, Chili’s, TGI Fridays, the Palmer Inn Restaurant, the Hyatt Regency, Big Fish, P.F. Chang’s, and Amerisuites Properties.
In addition, the council also authorized the clerk’s office to accept bids so that the township can sell a new liquor license — at a minimum bid of $1 million. This means that the township will be soliciting bids from interested establishments who will have to pay the township a minimum of $1 million.
Township Attorney Michael Herbert reported at the meeting that there were sales in other communities in the area that were in the $1 million range. He said he has been contacted by at lawyers for at least two establishments interested in competitively bidding for a new license. Establishments have the ability to submit bids that are higher than $1 million.
Members of the Township Council and other officials have not yet decided what the township would do with the $1 million in revenue if bids were received.
