Dancers from the West Windsor Plainsboro Dance Company return to the Emerald City with a condensed, narrated, and updated version of the classic movie tale, “The Wizard of Oz,” Saturday and Sunday, March 27 and 28, at Thomas Grover Middle School, Southfield Road, West Windsor. Held in conjunction with the West Windsor Department of Parks and Recreation, Saturday performances are at 2 and 7 p.m.; Sunday performance is at 1 p.m. For ticket information call the Dance Corner at 609-799-9677.
Directed and choreographed by Roni Wilityer and Amy DeCesare, the multi-genre production features more than 160 performers displaying their talents through ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, and hip hop. The show features a total of 22 numbers, including longtime favorites Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Ease on Down the Road, If I Only Had A Brain, and No Bad News.
The role of Dorothy is double cast with Allissa Goldberg and Mollie Stern, both of Plainsboro, sharing performances. Allissa, a student at High School North, turns 16 on March 21. Mollie, a student at High School South, turned 16 on March 9. They both have extensive training in ballet, pointe, and jazz.
“We have three casts because we have a lot of good dancers and we wanted to give them all a chance,” says Wilityer. “I always try to find something challenging for the dancers, but still pleasing for the audience to watch.”
