West Windsor Community Farmers Market to host food writing panel

The West Windsor Community Farmers Market will host its fourth annual Food Writing and Photography Panel Discussion on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 10:30 a.m.

Panelists set to appear at the event include: Husband-and-wife team Guy Ambrosino and Kate Windsow; Fran McManus; Katie Parla, who grew up in West Windsor; and Jessica Tom, a West Windsor resident. The panel will be moderated by WWCFM board member Jo Ann Parla.

Ambrosino is a photographer of numerous cookbooks, including Coming Home to Sicily, Field & Feast, The Maverick Cookbook, The Agricola Cookbook, and the upcoming The Farm Cooking School.

Winslow is a writer, recipe developer and former editor at Gourmet magazine. She has edited many cookbooks and co-authored the books Coming Home to Sicily and The Agricola Cookbook. Her most recent book is Onions, Etcetera: The Essential Allium Cookbook. McManus is a freelance writer and educator focused on the web of sensory, cultural and economic relationships that deepen our experience—and love—of place. The co-editor of four cookbooks and a regular contributor to Edible Jersey magazine, she is the cultural strategist for New Ark Farms—a Newark-based social enterprise focused on workforce development and regenerative agriculture—and designer of Flavor Fundamentals, food-focused sensory workshops for children. Katie Parla is a Rome-based food and beverage educator and journalist. She has an art history degree from Yale University, a master’s degree in Italian Gastronomic Culture and sommelier and archeological speleology certifications from the city of Rome. Parla says he mission is to highlight great food and beverages, praise the people dedicated to feeding us well and to get readers talking about what they are eating and drinking. She has written and edited more than 20 books including Eating and Drinking in Rome, mobile apps Katie Parla’s Rome and Katie Parla’s Istanbul, and National Geographic’s Walking Rome. Her latest is Tasting Rome: Fresh Flavors and Forgotten Recipes from an Ancient City, co-authored with photographer Kristina Gill. katieparla.com.

Tom is the author of Food Whore: A Novel of Dining and Deceit, her first novel. It has been featured in the New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, Eater, and on Buzzfeed, and translated into six foreign languages. Jessica is also an accomplished home cook and competed on the Food Network’s Cooks vs Cons. She attended Yale University jessicatom.com.

The event will allow time for book purchases and authors’ signings. A light farmers market snack will be provided. The WWCFM market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is located at 2 Vaughn Drive, at the Princeton Junction train station.
