In 2018, the West Windsor Township Police Department will be celebrating its 50-year anniversary, and officers will be doing so with a new chief of police.
Joseph M. Pica Jr., who was named chief of police on Oct. 1, 2001, has announced his retirement. He has served on the department for 43 years.
Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh announced that Robert Garofalo, a 28-year veteran and West Windsor resident, will take over for Pica. Garfalo will become the township’s fourth chief of police effective July 1, when Pica retires.
Currently the Administration Lt., Robert Garofalo has previously served in the patrol division, detective bureau and administration while rising up the ranks. Garofalo was promoted to Administrative Sgt. on Nov. 1, 1999 and then to Investigative Lt. on Sep. 15, 2008.
“What a great fit Lt. Garofalo is for our community,” Hsueh said “Our longstanding tradition of organizational structure will continue seamlessly under the new leadership of Robert Garofalo.”
