Although not required to do so, the WW-P school district presented its plans for the Village School expansion to the Planning Board at its meeting on November 6. The $13 million project is expected to add classrooms and multi-purpose rooms to the school, as well as second-floor office space for the central office.
Township engineer Francis Guzik was concerned about placement of safety items, such as fire hydrants, as well as emergency vehicle access. The district agreed to review the plans based on Guzik’s recommendations.
Landscape architect Dan Dobromilsky noted that the current placement of the driveway would necessitate the removal of a grove of oak trees that had been donated and planted by volunteers. “I think it can be avoided by moving the location of the driveway about 80 feet.” Dobromilsky also pointed out that under the current configuration, the construction would cut through one of the berms that acts as a buffer for the parking lots.
Architect George Duthie responded: “We are limited in where we can place the driveways because of all of the utility lines, sewers, and cables. Plus, we really wanted to keep the addition as compact as possible.”
Planning Board Chairman Marvin Gardner noted that while the board and township employees could make recommendations; those recommendations are not binding on the school district.
The regular meetings of the Planning Board scheduled for Wednesdays, November 13, 20, and 27 have been canceled. The next meeting will take place Wednesday, December 4.

The West Windsor Zoning Board was expected to hear two applications when at its regular meeting on Thursday, November 7.
The board planned to hear an application from Susan Gordon of 36 Benford Drive seeking an increase in the permitted floor area ratio.
And hearings were set to continue on the proposal to redevelop Ellsworth Center to include an additional 34,000 square feet of commercial space and 18 apartments.
A special meeting of the zoning board has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 13, at 7:30 p.m., to hear a new application from Wegman’s supermarket, seeking approval for a proposed one-story 10,800 foot addition.

West Windsor municipal offices will be closed on Monday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day. Trash collection will operate as normal.
