Graffiti. Someone spray-painted “jG 2011” on the side of the science wing building at High School South, said Officer Lee Evans. The cost to remove the spray paint from the building is unknown.
Shoplifting. Tawanda L. Hall, 30, and Latoya Snell, 28, both of Trenton, were charged March 12 with shoplifting at Lowe’s. Officer Campbell Knox said he was called to the store after employees saw Hall and Snell conceal vacuum cleaner bags in the large purses they were carrying. After they left the store without paying, the store detective confronted them and called the police, he said. Police found Hall had an active arrest warrant out of Bucks County, PA, and she was sent to the Mercer County Detention Center.
West Windsor Police are looking for three suspects in connection with an attempted shoplifting at Babies R Us on March 8.
Officer David Jelinski said he was called to the store after two suspects entered the store and spoke briefly at the store’s registry desk. The suspects were described as a black man in his 20s, wearing jeans, work boots, and a black hooded sweatshirt and a black woman in her 20s with short hair. They proceeded to walk around the store, placing items in a shopping cart. Once the cart was full, the man ran out of the front entrance of the store without paying. The store employees chased the suspects while calling the police. Both suspects got into a blue car driven by a black woman. The stolen merchandise — mostly children’s clothing worth a total $1,014.87 — was recovered outside of the store.
Fictitious Insurance Card. Amar S. Shahzad, 38, of West Windsor, and Sergey I. Azarov, 33, of Trenton, were charged March 3 with having a fictitious insurance card and false documents. Officer Lee Evans said he stopped a van for speeding on Wallace Road and found that Azarov, the driver, presented two documents as proof of liability insurance. Evans said he suspected they were fraudulent because the insurance carriers listed on the documents were contacted and both said they did not insure the van.
Upon further investigation, Evans found that the documents were not only invalid, but they were fictitiously produced. Azarov was charged with presenting a fake insurance card, while the van’s owner, Shahzad, who was found responsible for maintaining insurance on the van, was charged March 6. Shahzad was sent to the Mercer County jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Drug Arrests. Joshua Steven Green, 18, of Glenmoore, PA, was charged March 5 with three counts of drug possession. Officer Frank Sabatino said he stopped his pick up truck on Route 1 South, just south of Quakerbridge Road, for motor vehicle violations when he saw evidence of marijuana inside the car. After speaking with Green, the driver, he determined that a shotgun was located behind the front seat, and he ordered Green and the two other occupants to exit the truck. Sabatino said he searched the truck and found a bag of psilocybin (mushrooms), marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
Green was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of psilocybin, and possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as motor vehicle summonses. He was released on $4,700 bail.
Oliver Cabrera, 20, and Victor M. Alvarez, 48, both of Trenton, were charged March 4 with possession of marijuana under 50 grams. Officer Matthew Kemp said he was patrolling the Nassau Park Retail Center when he saw a car parked illegally in front of the Wal-Mart store. A woman left the Wal-Mart and got into the car, which then pulled away. Kemp said he followed the car to a safe location on Quakerbridge Road to stop the car.
He said he found that Cabrera had a revoked license and that there was an active warrant issued for him by Trenton Municipal Court. He said he also found that Karen S. Rodriguez, 21, also from Trenton, was wanted on warrants from Hamilton and Trenton. The third occupant, Alvarez, also had a warrant out of Merchantville Borough. All three were placed under arrest and while Kemp was searching Alvarez, he said he found him with marijuana. All three were released after posting the cash bail for their respective warrants. Cabrera and Alvarez were both issued summonses for possession of marijuana under 50 grams.
Underage Drinking. Ryan J. Billek, 18, and Robert J. Dunne, 18, both of West Windsor, were charged March 12 in connection with a traffic stop that yielded alcohol charges. Officer Christopher Van Ness said he stopped a car on Old Trenton Road at Mercer County Community College for a maintenance of lamps violation and saw several beer cans within the passenger compartment. He said he searched the car and found a case of beer, under 50 grams of marijuana, as well as drug paraphernalia.
Billek was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of an alcoholic beverage under the legal age. Dunne was charged with possession of alcoholic beverage under the legal age and consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle. The driver of the car, also a West Windsor resident, was issued motor vehicle summonses for maintenance of lamps as well as open containers of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
