Five area high school juniors will participate in the first Urban Teaching Academy at College of New Jersey in July. The program, coordinated by Larry Fieber, a former West Windsor-Plainsboro high school principal, includes field trips, speakers, student facilitated forums, and reaction, feedback, and reflection exercises. Topics covered include the inner city and urban environment, classroom management, bullying, multiculturalism, multiple intelligences, elementary, early childhood and special education, and teaching in a multiple language classroom. Students will also learn how to teach actual lessons in math and science to fourth graders.
The students from WW-P have completed at least one year of course work in Child Growth and Development of Youth Teaching Youth in the Life Skills Department under the supervision of Dawn Bozian (South) or Donna Joyce (North).
