Deborah J. Frazier was recently named executive director of the National Junior Tennis and Learning of Trenton (NJTLT). She assumed the position on April 3 and succeeds Rob Howland, who has been elevated to national director of USTA’s NJTL programs.
A financial advisor and retirement income professional with Morgan Stanley, Frazier has served as a board member for nonprofit organizations and selected for her understanding of fundraising, budgeting, and planning.
She received her undergraduate degree at Indiana University and an MBA from Columbia University. Previous positions include financial advisor at RBC Wealth Management in Princeton and as assistant to the chair of educational theory, policy, and administration at Rutgers University. She is a member of the Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce Foundation and vice chair of the Capital Region Minority Chamber of Commerce. She lives in Kendall Park.
Back To Basic First Fridays back downtown
The African American Cultural Collaborative of Mercer County’s Back-to-Basic First Fridays are back and continue through September.
The events take place in the South Warren and West Front street areas and continue to build on the Capital City’s growing downtown activities. Each Friday features a theme, area musicians, vendors, and other attractions.
The series gets moving on May 5 with a Cinco de Mayo celebration, and continues as follows:
June 2, “Old School With a New School Flavor,” with a guest area DJ; July 7, “Carnival Tyme” with Caribbean dancers, music, and parade; August 4, “R&B Motown,” featuring a fashion runway and live performances; and September 1, “School Daze Give Back,” with DJs and youth performances. Participation is free. In case of rain, events will happen on the following Friday.
The African American Cultural Collaborative of Mercer County is designed to educate, empower, and unite Africans in the Diaspora through cultural arts, health and wellness, entertainment, and sports.

Symphony in the ‘backyard’
The Princeton Symphony Orchestra’s April 8 gala raised funds for the orchestra’s PSO BRAVO! education programs, including a new initiative to bring the PSO’s music into the Trenton Public Schools.
The event was held at Jasna Polana in Lawrenceville and featured performances by violin virtuoso Daniel Rowland, PSO musicians, and professional tango dancers.
“Transporting hundreds of school children from Trenton to Princeton just isn’t feasible for Trenton Public Schools, so the Princeton Symphony Orchestra is being pro-active and bringing the orchestra to Trenton,” PSO Board President Emeritus and Honorary Gala Chair David Tierno said. “Now school children there will be able to experience the joys and inspiration of a live orchestra performance in their own backyard.”
