Dana Isherwood of West Windsor, who recently completed a training program led by former Vice President Al Gore to spread the message about the threat of and solutions to global warming, will present a program on the subject at West Windsor Municipal Building on Thursday, June 28, at 7:30 p.m. The slide show focuses on warming temperatures and rising greenhouse gases based on Gore’s film, “An Inconvenient Truth.” It is open to the community.##M:[more]##

“I was inspired by the movie and felt compelled to do more than just change my light bulbs,” she says. Isherwood is one of 1,”000 volunteers who were personally trained by Gore, scientists, and environmental educators in Nashville, Tennessee. They were chosen from their past experience in organizing, presentation, and outreaching.

“What I’m doing about raising awareness on global warning is very important,” Isherwood says. “I’m a messenger to get the issue out.” Isherwood receives daily E-mail and updated slides to keep her informed about new developments.

Born in New Jersey, she is a graduate of University of Rhode Island. A vice president at a large financial services firm in Jersey City, she has worked in the financial industry for 15 years.

Married to Darryll Isherwood, a reporter for the Times of Trenton, the couple has lived in West Windsor for two and a half years.

She has already presented classes throughout New Jersey including sessions at Cranbury Library, Princeton High School, area community community centers. Isherwood has not had to do any publicity citing the “domino effect” to finding more speaking engagements.

Her talks vary according to the audience and community she is presenting to. Her talk in West Windsor will follow a meeting with West Windsor Mayor Shing-fu Hseuh to discover any matters that he would like addressed.

“All of us can make a difference,” she says. Isherwood recommends changing to compact fluorescent light bulbs, reducing the amount of paper used, and driving less. She also suggests purchasing a hybrid car as your next car. (She takes the train to Jersey City every day). For more information visit www.climateproject.org.

West Windsor Mayor Shing-fu Hsueh plans for this to be the first of a series of discussions about sustainability continuing throughout the summer.

“This is my own personal passion and I’m very happy that Dana offered to be the first speaker,” he says. “I do have a serious concern because of my own scientific background.”

West Windsor Environmental Commission has been working with Rutgers to develop a sustainability plan. That plan will become a model for the rest of the state. “It is important to act locally and think globally because we’re all in the same boat,” says Hsueh.
