A West Windsor man was killed by a southbound New Jeresy Transit train enroute to Trenton just before noon on February 3.
Suresh Penu, 41, of West Windsor, was struck by the train about half a mile south of the Princeton Junction train station, west of Alexander Road, West Windsor Police reported.
The train, which departed from New York at 10:31 a.m., struck Penu around 11:45 a.m., said NJ Transit officials. Approximately 50 passengers were on the train and had to be transferred to another train, said NJT spokesman Dan Stessel.
The accident disrupted service to the Princeton Junction and Hamilton train stations. Trains southbound to Trenton bypassed the Princeton Junction and Hamilton stations during the investigation, which spanned a few hours.
Passengers heading to those destinations had to transfer at Trenton and head north to Hamlton and Princeton Junction. NJT also provided shuttle bus service at those stations. Two of the four tracks were closed for the investigation.
West Windsor Police said that Amtrak was handling the investigation into how Penu got onto the train tracks and why he was there.
According to Penu’s online profile on LinkedIn.com, he was a senior consultant at LogiWorks Inc.
