Aayush Visaria, a student from Millstone River School, was honored at a statewide awards ceremony for gifted children held by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth. ##M:[more]##He was invited to the ceremony based on an exceptional performance in an above grade level test given to fifth through eighth grade talent search participants. He received the second place award in Plus Quantitative Score, for the fifth grade within New Jersey. Plus is a test similar to the SAT scaled for younger students.
Aayush, 11, lives in Plainsboro and will attend Grover Middle School in September. He is in the gifted and talented program in math in school and active with area soccer and football recreation teams. A Cub Scout for five years, he is a member of Pack 759.
Urvashi Pathania, a student at Grover Middle School, was recognized for her academic excellence in math and science. As a result, she will attend “Examining the Evidence,”a three-week science camp at Mount Holyoke in Massachusetts. She also lives in Plainsboro.
More than 2,”000 New Jersey students who distinguished themselves through special testing were honored this spring. “We want these bright children to have their day in the limelight for their academic talent and to celebrate their abilities, just as we celebrate excellence in athletics or the performing arts,” says Leah Yvarra, executive director of the Center for Talented Youth. “Many students recognized at our awards ceremonies already know that being smart is cool, but there are others for whom their abilities come as a surprise to them and their families.”
