Laura Navarro of Plainsboro is one of only 68 students from around the world selected to participate in the 2009 Telluride Association Summer Program (TASP) at Cornell University, a six-week educational experience designed to bring together high school juniors who are truly inspired by learning. The program offers students college-level seminars, as well as the opportunity to participate in a wide range of other educational and social activities. She is a rising senior at Peddie School.##M:[more]##
“I find Laura to be one of the most enthusiastic learners around,” said Anne-Marie Gustavson, Navarro’s advisor. “She has great intellectual curiosity and had a hard time choosing among several possibilities to broaden her horizons over the summer.”
Navarro was chosen from an applicant pool of 986 highly qualified students. TASP is one of the most prestigious academic summer programs in the nation. All expenses are covered by the Telluride Association and the host institution.
“Laura is unusually gifted in terms of being able to see broad themes and trends in history,” said Peter Kraft, Peddie’s history department chair. “She is a nimble thinker and a strong analytical writer — a first-class historian in every way and a perfect choice for this elite program.”
