Students, staff, and parents participated in Make a Difference Day as part of October’s theme of “Respect for Self and Others” at Millstone River and Village schools. It was in conjunction with National Make a Difference Day, for which projects were completed by people of all ages.
Posters promoting the event were created by students in grades 4 and 5 and were displayed throughout both schools during the month of October. The students collected 561 coats that were sorted, washed, and delivered to Doorway To Hope. Barbara Thompson, director of the Trenton-based organization, spoke to students about the individuals who will be served because of the coat drive, noting that Doorway To Hope provides housing and services to homeless and underprivileged families.

Students and staff from Mercer Community College visited third grade students at Dutch Neck Elementary School to highlight the celebration of science with hands-on chemistry and eye-popping demonstrations of the power of chemistry. “Hands-on experiences help to open the minds of students and allow them to experience the reality of science and science experiments,” says Rich Stec, the K to 12 science supervisor in the WW-P district.
