Both North fencing teams were crowned district champions at the District 2 Fencing Championships on Saturday, February 1. It is the third-sraight title for the girls. The win qualified both teams for the State Squad Championships. The boys also placed second overall, sending them to the State Team Championships Sweet Sixteen.

Elysia Wang, Katie Khaw and Celine Demorre placed second, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the individual saber competition. All three girls qualified for the Individual State Championships.

Whilliam Zhang placed second in epee and Michael Leung placed third in saber, sending them to the Individual State Championships. Amit Sarma and Prashant Baliga placed seventh and eighth in epee, while Kyle Jacobson placed ninth in saber.

Boys’ Winter Track

South tied for second overall at the Mercer County Indoor Track Championship on Sunday, January 26. Karn Setya led the Pirates with a first-place finish in the 3200 and a third-place finish in the 1600. Jacob Arbeiter won the 800-meter race, and Nikhil Pulminood placed second in the 3200.

C.J. Markisz was North’s top finisher, earning second place in the 55-meter dash. North’s Alan Wang also finished third in the pole vault.

Girls’ Winter Track

North placed second at the Mercer County Indoor Track Championship on Sunday, January 26. Pati Dziekonska placed first in the 55-meter hurdles, the 55-meter dash, and the long jump, earning her meet MVP honors. Her 8.1-second time in the hurdles broke the meet record, which she set last year. Simone Counts placed first in the 800 and third in the 1600.

For the Pirates, Edwina Gulama placed third in the 400, while Edlyn Gulama came in third in the 800. Deirdre Casey placed second in the 1600. Christina Rancan came in third in the 3200.
