Sports Briefs
Becky Peters went 5-1-4-17 for the South team at the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association All-Star Classic on March 22. She also has been named to second-team All-State list.
Plainsboro resident Rebecca Soni, a junior at the University of Southern California, set pool records in the 100 breasstroke (59.19) and the 200 breaststroke (2:06.32) at the NCAA championships at Ohio State University. Her medley relay team finished eighth at the meet. Soni already has the NCAA record in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:06:11.
Joe Huttner, a High School South graduate and a junior at Haverford College, has pitched in four games, including one as a starter, for the college’s men’s baseball team. He has struck out six and walked one.
High School South graduate Rich Gawlak’s triple in game two of TCNJ men’s baseball team’s sweep of Rutgers Unviersity-Newark on March 29 tied the game at 12-12 before ahead of a game-winning RBI by one of his teammates.
Jason Tosches, a High School South graduate and a junior at Moravian College, has scored 18 goals for 22 points and has four assists with the college men’s lacrosse team. He has started in all seven games so far this season. He was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week for the second time.
High School North graduate Charlie Carluccio has played in all 13 games fo the Haverford College baseball team and has 17 hits in 41 at bats for a team-high .415. He has 12 RBIs, four doubles, and two triples. As a pitcher, he has had five saves in nine games and has allowed only two runs in 12.5 innings.
Martin Suresh, of Plainsboro, was the top finisher in the male 30-34 age division in the CASC 5K Run/Walk and Health Fair in Hightstown on March 29. He finished in 17:59 for an eighth place finish overall.
West Windsor resident Bridget Dalrymple was the top Masters female fiisher in the same race. She placed 31st overall, and was the fifth female finisher with a time of 23:09.
The Cranbury-PLainsboro Little League will begin its season on Saturday, April 5, Opening Day ceremonies will commence with a parade of each team through Plainsboro Community Park at 10 a.m. Remarks from Plainsboro Mayor Peter Cantu and CPLL President Jeffrey Frain are also on the schedule of events. Roughly 400 games will be played this season.
