Wrestling
North (5-14): Ted Hirt, at 140 pounds, and Matt Kalinowski, at 152 pounds, reached the finals in the District 20 tournament, but were defeated. They also were both defeated at the Region 5 prelimimaries on February 26.

North (12-3) Virginia Hung placed 15th in the 100-yard butterfly, with a time of 1:00.03, at the Meet of Champions on March 2.
South (13-2) Rebecca Lewinson won the state title in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.73, and the 400-yard freestyle relay team won the state title with a time of 3:34.94 at the Meet of Champions on March 2. Boys Winter Track
North Tyler Corkdale placed sixth in the 1,”600 with a time of 4:24.11, on February 23 at NJSIAA Meet of Champions.
South Brian Leung had a personal-best time of 4:14.4 as he helped the South boys place first in the distance medley relay in 10:18.76, another top time in the nation this season, at the Eastern State Championships at the 138th Street Armory on February 26. Brandon Wu placed fifth in the shot put, 54-10.
Brian Leung won the 3,”200 run with a time of 8:59.77, at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions on February 23. He broke the meet record (formerly 9:03.58); he also became the fastest indoor track runner to win the 3,”200 in the country this season with his time.
Girls Winter Track
North Trish Reilly placed fifth in the 1,”600 run with a time of 5:07.13, at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions on February 23.
South Sammi Howell tied for second place in the high jump, 5-4, at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions on February 23.
Boys Fencing
North (4-9) A seventh place finish, with 27 wins, for the boys’ epee squad at the boys’ State Squad Championships at North Hunterdon on March 1. Joseph Behnke went 11-4 and finished second on the B strip. Hamad Masood went 10-5 and finished 5th on the C strip; Stefan Haas-Heye went 6-9 and tied for eighth place on the A strip. The squad made the state finals.

South (9-1) A win against High School North, 20-7, on February 25. Maddy Weiss went 3-0 in sabre. Foil: Rebecca Shi, Jen Kong and Vivian Hou all went 3-0.
Sports Briefs
Caroline Kellner, an eighth grader at Grover Middle School, was the third female finisher at the Freehold Area Running Club Winter Series race on January 13. She finished the 5k course in 21 minutes and 46 seconds.
Katie Kellner, a junior at High School South, was the fourth overall finisher at a race in the Freehold Area Running Club Winter Series race on January 20. She was the first female finisher in the 15-19 age division.
Matt Howell, a High School South graduate, has scored 11 points, and had three rebounds and four assists on the Ursinus College men’s basketball team. He has played in eight of 17 games this season.
Ted Mavraganis, a resident of West Windsor and a senior at Gettysburg College, was part of the men’s indoor track and field relay squad that finished the 4×200-meter with a time of 1:35 for third place at the the Ursinus College Frank Colden Invitational on February 2. The relay team also captured a gold medal while setting a school record at the Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at Ursinus College, with a time of 1:32.13. The 4×200 relay team helped lead the track and field team to a team title at the Dickinson Colelge DuCharme Invitational as well.
Rebecca Soni, a High School North graduate, a swimmer at the University of Southern California, was named the Pac-10 Female Swimmer of the Month for November. She broke the NCAA record in the 200 breaststroke at the Husky Invitational in Seattle with her time of 2:07.08. That also broke her own USC record. During the event, she also wont the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.40 and swam an automatic qualifying time in the 400 IM. She also swam for a time of 2:00.70 for the 200 IM.
Uche Ndubizu, a High School South graduate, has been playing on the University of Rochester’s men’s basketball team, where he has started in eight of the team’s nine games this year. He is third on the team in scoring, averaging 14.1 points per game. He is also second in rebounding at 7.5 per game.
Nijel Robinson, of Plainsboro and a 2005 graduate of High School South, is a sophomore guard for Felician College’s basketball team. He has played in eight games, averaging 12.4 minutes. He had two three-point field goals helped put his team ahead, 53-33, with 11:02 remaining in the team’s victory over University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. He finished the game with eight points and five rebounds.
Brian Honore, a High School South graduate, is a sophomore at Maryland, where he placed 11th in the 500 freestyle in 4:48.87 during the team’s win over Villanova and loss to Pittsburgh and Penn State in a quad meet in Pittsburgh. During that meet, he was part of the sixth-place 200 medley relay. He has the best 500 free time for the Terrapins, with a time of 4:33.35. Honore is also the team’s second best 1,”000 free swimmer and 1,”650 swimmer, and the third fastest 200 freestyle swimmer.
Erin Tormey, a High School South graduate, is a member of the Lehigh University women’s swimming and diving team. With a score of 200.2, she won the 3-meter diving even in the team’s loss to Bucknell last month. Tormey also won the 1-meter and 3-meter events earlier this season against Lafayette. She also got 18 points for her team with her scores of 208.27 in the 1-meter and 225.22 in the 3-meter.
