#b#First ‘Paddle Battle’ Benefits Post Prom#/b#
On January 29 High Schools North and South joined together in the first ever “Paddle Battle,” a ping-pong tournament pitting students, parents, and alumni against each other — all for the equal benefit of the post-prom events at both schools. The event raised over $500 and was held at Princeton Pong on Alexander Road, thanks to sponsorship by owners Kathy and Flint Lane.
Following an exhibition match featuring three-time Olympic champion David Zhuang, 37 participants played against each other in advanced plus, advanced, and intermediate categories. Dennis Lepold, principal of High School South, gave out prizes to the winners and runners-up. Bob and Victoria L’Insalata served as scorekeepers.
Advanced plus winner was Billy Joe (South student) and runner-up was Ajay Kaisth (South parent). Advanced winner was Liviu Chiriac (North parent) and runner-up was Madhava Rakshit (South student). There were two winners in the intermediate category: Ainsley Reid (North student) and Serban Tiganila (South parent). Parents from both schools, including Dale L’Insalata, Patti Wold, Yvonne Tang, and Daniela Kaisth, worked together to organize the event.
#b#Benfer Earns Highest USFS Ranking#/b#
Brittany Benfer, above, a 2015 graduate of High School North, recently passed the United States Figure Skating senior level test. Benfer is now considered a United States Figure Skating Senior Gold Medalist, the highest achievement in the test structure. Just 3 percent of USFS skaters pass the test each year.
Benfer is currently a freshman at the University of Delaware studying pre-veterinary medicine and animal bioscience. She also skates for the school’s skating team.
