South Spring Flea Market

Planning for Post Prom 2014 began in September, 2010, when the Class of 2014 Spirit Club was formed by Marie Nesci and Lisa Pappa. The purpose of the club was to create some fun bonding activities to unite the Class of 2014 and to fundraise for Post Prom. “Our thoughts were that during these difficult economic times, that it would be easier to fundraise over a four-year period, than trying to raise all the necessary funds in just one year,” says Nesci. “Our fundraising endeavors have included bake sales, pie sales, T-shirt sales, and a gift show — all extremely successful.”

Based on the success of the High School South PTSA’s Fall Flea Market, the team decided to organize a Spring Flea Market on Saturday, June 1, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. “Spring tends to be the time of the year that most people like to clean house and de-clutter,” says Nesci. “This is the first time South has held a spring flea market.”

The group’s next big event will be the second annual gift show on Sunday, October 27. “Last year, vendors sold an amazing assortment of merchandise,” says Nesci. “There was jewelry, clothing, accessories, home furnishings, specialty foods, cosmetics, golf attire, and crafters from the tri-state area.” Despite the threat of Hurricane Sandy on the evening of the show, the people of the community shopped.

“Our vendors were thrilled with their sales and many have already purchased tables for our upcoming show,” says Nesci. “Based on the current bookings, we anticipate that this year’s show will be even bigger that last year’s show.”

The team is in the beginning stage of planning additional fundraising events. Some ideas include a wine tasting, a Pink-Out Zumba night in October, bake sales, a prom dress sale, and a restaurant night. “The West Windsor and Plainsboro communities have always been generous in donating money, merchandise, food, and services to help make Post Prom a successful night.”

Community members may purchase spaces for $15 to sell their treasures of new or gently used merchandise. Applications are available at South or by E-mail to 2014spiritclub@gmail.com.
