Olympic Action, Close to Home

Village Grande of West Windsor has established itself as a community leader in an unlikely category: Senior Olympics. Village Grande has won gold medals in billiards, swimming, men’s table tennis, and men’s tennis. Village Grande residents also won silver medals in bocce and foul shooting. The medals will be awarded at a ceremony on Sunday, September 26, at the clubhouse by co-directors Bonnie Heller and Andrea Pitluk.

Senior Olympic competitions have been a part of life in Monroe and Monmouth counties for 14 years and now Village Grande is the first community from Mercer County to compete. Open to people ages 55 and older, the 2004 competition began in May, starting with the opening ceremonies and the first event – race walking. Each event is held at a different community – competition ends Monday, August 16.
