West Windsor-Plainsboro Send Hunger Packing has received a $10,000 contribution to support the program from Princeton University. The contribution was recently presented by Kristin Appelget, university director of community and regional affairs and Erin Metro, associate director of community relations.
The Send Hunger Packing program provides weekend meal packages for some 175 children from grades K to 6 in the West Windsor-Plainsboro School District in association with Mercer Street Friends, nonprofit organization. The meal packages, discreetly distributed on Fridays in coordination with the school nurses keep these children from going hungry on the weekends so they return to school on Monday well-nourished and ready to learn.
“This donation will allow 175 participating students to be ready to learn on Monday mornings,” said Melissa Hager, program organizer of WW-P SHuP. “We urge all who can—companies, foundations and individuals alike—to donate to this local community program helping our students in need.”
“The university is pleased to support the West Windsor-Plainsboro School District and the Send Hunger Packing program to help ensure that children in the district can come to school prepared to succeed in the classroom,” said Appelget, who grew up in West Windsor.
