Anant Gharpure of West Windsor has raised three puppies for the Seeing Eye in Morristown. As co-president of People to People International Greater Princeton, when he suggested organizing a bike-a-thon to raise funds for the organization, the members agreed and the event will be held Saturday, May 19 in Lambertville. Most of the students are ninth graders from West Windsor, Plainsboro, Hopewell, and Princeton.
Gharpure is also involved with music and plays double bass with the Central Jersey High School Regional Orchestra and with the Youth Orchestra of Central Jersey. He is the treasurer for the Mercer County 4H Seeing Eye Puppy Club. His family’s current dog, Ivory, is 14 months old and will return to Morristown in mid-June.
His father, Vishwanath Gharpure, is a oncologist and hematologist. His mother, Anjani Gharpure, is a homemaker and a member of the West Windsor-Plainsboro Board of Education. His sister, Radhika Gharpure, is a freshman at University of Pennsylvania. When she was the president of the PTP chapter, the group organized a coat drive for the earthquake victims in Pakistan.
Greater Princeton chapter of PTPI was started by Plainsboro resident, Piya Radia, four years ago. Gharpure, a ninth grade student at High School North, is enjoying his first official year as the co-president. Sharang Phadke, a ninth grade student at High School South, is the secretary for the PTPI chapter. Involved with Boy Scouts, he is a Life Scout, and is working to become an Eagle Scout.
