Cheryl Corbett of Plainsboro was awarded the Council Appreciation Award by the Girl Scouts of Central and Southern NJ. In addition to being a troop leader for many years, Corbett served the last three years as co-service unit director for West Windsor-Plainsboro.##M:[more]##
During her service in this position, she was responsible for instituting or running many new programs that benefited both the girls and the community. Crafting for the Community focuses on younger girls making holiday decorations for area community groups servicing children through senior citizens.
Older girls are given leadership opportunities to lead the younger girls. To provide programs for the high school age Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts, Corbett introduced cabin camping and interest project badge workshops. She has also worked with Girl Scouts at Martin House in Trenton.
Corbett, who has hosted a Fresh Air Fund girl in the summer for several years, has also served in leadership positions with PTAs.
“Cheryl fundamentally believes in providing service to others,” says Louisa Ho, Corbett’s co-service unit director. “She has been an exemplary troop leader and co-service unit director.
In her roles, she has lived the Girl Scout Law — being honest, fair, considerate, caring.”
West Windsor-Plainsboro service unit serves more than 700 girls in the West Windsor and Plainsboro communities. The group presented volunteer awards to outstanding adult volunteers.
