WW-P schools were successful at the Science Olympiad regional tournament. Grover Middle School’s Science Olympiad team took first place in the Regional Science Olympiad Competition and will compete in the state competition in March. The coaches are teachers Rae McKenna, Christopher Castner, and Tara Hipple.

First place medal winners were Nishant Iyengar and Kabir Sarita in Anatomy; Tanishq Aggarwal and Stephanie Ji in Biology Blitz; and Srivatsan Srinivasan and Sharon Zhang in Road Scholar.

Second place medal winners were Isaac Park and Joey Hsia in Boomilever; Tanishq Aggarwal and Chinmay Sevak in Rotor Egg Drop; and Allison Lin and Nishant Iyengar in Write It Do It.

Third place medal winners were Chiru Koiloth, Sharon Zhang and Julia Wu in Experimental Design; Ananya Pappu and Richa Gavaskar in Reach for the Stars; and Anesha Nadella and Aditya Iyer in Rocks and Minerals.

Fifth place medal winners include Allison Lin and Nishant Iyengar in Metric Mastery.

Competing against 21 other middle schools, A Team won the overall championship, while B Team took fourth place. The students received 21 medals in 26 events. The coach is Kyle Schimpf, and assistant coaches are Raisa Donnard and Virginia Baner.

First place medal winners include Jason Yang and Uday Shankar for Anatomy; Andrew Hong and Tyler Shen for Helicopters; Kriti Devasenapathy and Cindy Jin for Forestry; Diana Tang and Catherin Huang for Write It/Do It; and Mahesh Khanwalkar and Varun Subbiah for Road Scholar.

Second place medal winners include Shannon Weng and Charles Dai for Disease Detectives; Anna Hsu and Mridul Bansal for Dynamic Planet; Jeffery Yu and Hasit Dantara for Meteorology; Jason Yang and Divya Unnam for Reach for the Stars; Nick Leung and Revanth Gumpu for Rocks and Minerals; and Albert Sebastian and Goutham Yalla for Road Scholar.

Third place medal winners include Anshu Jonnalagadda and Asha Agrawal for Dynamic Planet; Roger Jin, Kriti Devasenapathy, and Catherine Huang for Experimental Design; Amy Jian and Nikhita Subbiah for Helicopters; and Reuben Van Eck and Asha Agrawal for Meteorology.

Fourth place medal winners include Reuben Van Eck and Diana Tang for Rocks and Minerals.

Fifth place medal winners include Nick Leung, Ani Govindhan, and Goutham Yalla for Experimental Design; Varun Subbiah and Matthew Pan for Mousetrap Vehicle.

Sixth place medal winners include Yash Gupta and Tirtho Banerjee for Anatomy; Eshita Sangal and Jeffery Yu for Disease Detectives; and Anshu Jonnalagadda and Roger Jin for Biology Blitz (Trial).

Seventh place medal winner was Yash Gupta for Biology Blitz (Trial).

Eighth place medal winners include Julian Zhang and Mridual Bansal for Reach for the Stars.

Eleventh place medal winners include Alex Jeon and Revanth Gumpu for Forestry; and Hasit Dantara and Jonathan Wang for Mousetrap Vehicle.

Eighteenth place medal winners include Anna Hsu and Mridual Dalmia for Write It/Do It.

The North Science Olympiad teams competed at two tournaments, the regional at Union County College, where 24 New Jersey high school teams competed, and the Valley Forge Invitational tournament at Conestoga High School in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, where 37 teams competed, most from Pennsylvania. The A team finished first at both events. The results of the invitational follow.

First place medals: Anatomy and Physiology, Aastha Chokshi and Bolong Xu; Chemistry Lab, Matthew Zang and Eric Yang; Circuit Lab, Brice Huang and Chris Shao; Disease Detectives, Lyric Gupta and Bolong Xu; Fermi Questions, Brice Huang and Eric Yang; Thermodynamics, Aastha Chokshi and Matt Zang; Remote Sensing, Aniketh Maddipati and Sagar Tikoo.

Louis Wang and Brice Huang: second place medals for Maglev.

Third place medals: Rohan Agrawal and Bolong Xu for Astronomy, Rohan Agrawal and Daniel Liu for Dynamic Planet; Edison Lee and Chris Shao for Materials Science; and Arvinth Sethuraman and Suntharam Solai for Chemistry Lab.

Felix Su and Bolong Xu: fourth place medals for Robot Arm.

Jayati Verma, Daniel Liu, and Edison Lee: fifth place medals for Experimental Design.

Other participants include Team A members Avinash Subramanian, Aditya Badeti, Jason Zhang, and Jeremy Zhang; and B team members James Chi, Suhrudh Daaram, Prasannasai Meruga, Shandilya Pachgade, Sushmith Ramesh, Alok Tripathy, and Cody Yang.

“Our goal is to win three more first place trophies including another invitational, the NJ state tournament, and then at the Science Olympiad National tournament,” says Jim Looney. “I graduated from Conestoga High School, so I was especially proud to leave with the first place trophy. It was a good homecoming.” The other team coach is Regina Celin.

The High School South Science Olympiad team competed in the recent regional competition. High School South Team A placed second and Team B placed fourth. The coaches are Meenakshi Bhattacharya and Sunila Sharma.

Team A third place medal winners: Shaurya Luthra and Alex Zhou for Elastic Launch Glider.

Team A fourth place medal winners include Jason Shi and Rishab Singh for Circuit Lab.

Team B first place medal winners: Aleck Zhao and Angela Mao for Astronomy; Dhruva Byrapatna and Charlie Gu for Dynamic Planet; and Barath Jaladi and Ben Lee for Elastic Launch Glider.

Team B third place medal winners: Kiran Vaidya and Ishan Mazumdar for Anatomy and Physiology.

Team B fifth place medal winners: Kevin Li and William Jiao for Fermi Questions; and Ben Lee and Kiran Vaidya for Forestry.
