Alyssa Schiera of West Windsor received a scholarship from Knights of Columbus of St. David the King Church in West Windsor. She was awarded the annual scholarship because of her involvement in parish activities and scholastic achievements. She has been a member of the youth group at St. David for three years, where she has assisted with the Christmas pageant, the pancake breakfast, and communion.
While a student at Grover Middle School, Schiera created a peanut butter and jelly food drive. She made posters and flyers and posted announcements on Facebook, E-mailed neighbors and teammates, and put boxes in the community. She delivered 85 jars to the Mercer County Food Banks.
Schiera, who competes in regional and national golf competitions, won the Mercer County Junior Futures Tournament for girls 14 to 15 and is presently a 6 handicap. A freshman, she will play golf for Notre Dame High School.
Other community service activities include working as a big sister for West Windsor Little League and teaching golf at Dutch Neck’s International Game Night.
