Princeton National Rowing Association’s Mercer Junior Rowing Club placed third in the Lightweight Women’s Youth Eight event at US Rowing’s Youth National Championships at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, on June 9. PNRA/Mercer’s lightweight women’s youth eight boat was one of 24 boats that qualified for youth national championships. PNRA/Mercer placed behind defending national champions Oakland Strokes from California, and northeast region powerhouse Wayland-Weston of Massachusetts. The lightweight eight lineup featured High School North senior Vicki Jorgensen of Plainsboro.
Four other PNRA/Mercer boats competed at Youth Nationals with West Windsor residents. The women’s youth pair, including senior captain Laura Foster, finished eighth overall. The women’s lightweight youth four with freshman Elise Gorberg, finished 11th. The men’s youth eight with team captain senior Tim Lee, senior Cameron Ward, and juniors Sean Kelly and Jack Gleim, finished 11th. The men’s youth four with Finn Ludwig and coxswain senior Monica Mendoza, finished 17th.
The Princeton National Rowing Association, a 501(c)3 organization, operates the Finn M.W. Caspersen Rowing Center located on Mercer Lake in Mercer County Park in West Windsor.
