Riverside Elementary hosted more than 20 researchers and scientists, many of whom work at Princeton University, at the 35th annual science fair on May 21 through 22.
Presenters gave children a hands-on feel for what scientists do as well as what types of questions they ask.
There were presentations on topics in genetics, DNA, physics, cryogenics, micro-fluids, mechanical engineering, computer programming, ecology and animal adaptations, as well as a Star Lab run by Riverside science teacher Mark Eastburn.
Kicking off the second of the two-day event, which mixed student work and demos from professionals, was a a demonstration of quantum levitation by particle physicist Dr. Christopher Tully, whose daughter attends Riverside, and some of his students.
The students then had their opportunity to explain and present their own research conducted in science lab over the course of the year at Riverside’s first-ever science “poster session” organized by Eastburn.
Every child was given a button to wear declaring that they were “A Future Scientist from Riverside.”
