Kimiko Marsi, 21, of West Windsor was accepted into the Peace Corps and departed for Togo on June 10 to begin training as an English and gender education volunteer. Marsi will live and work in a community to teach both children and adults.

“I hope to expand my knowledge of the world, learn more about the attitudes and customs of education, learn and become fluent in another language, and come closer to figuring out what I want to do professionally,” says Marsi.

A graduate of California State University in Long Beach, California, she earned a bachelor of arts in linguistics and anthropology. She is the daughter of Scott and Linda Marsi.

During the first three months of her service, Marsi will live with a host family in Togo to become fully immersed in the country’s language and culture. After acquiring the language and cultural skills necessary to assist her community, Marsi will be sworn into service and be assigned to a community in Togo, where she will live and work for two years with the local people.
