Ranjana G. Madhusudhan, senior research economist for the Division of Taxation, has been named assistant director of the Division’s Office of Revenue and Economic Analysis. She is a Plainsboro resident.##M:[more]##
As a senior research economist, Madhusudhan has assisted the Office of Revenue and Economic Analysis in forecasting revenues from major State taxes, a key element in preparing the annual State budget. She also helps monitor tax collections and major economic trends and reviews the potential economic effects of pending legislations.
In her new position Madhusudhan will take on a more supervisory role, leading a group of tax and economic analysts as well as continuing to research national and State tax policy matters. She also will serve as an economic adviser to Treasurer Bradley Abelow and Governor Corzine on economic and tax policy issues.
Madhusudhan’s work has garnered her national attention. Last year she was elected first vice president of the National Tax Association, the premier organization in the tax and public finance area, bringing together government, corporate, academic, and independent tax professionals. She is slated to become the NTA President in November.
She received her bachelor of arts degree in economics with honors from the University of Delhi in India; a master of philosophy degree in economics from the University of Hyderabad, and a doctorate in economics from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse University.
She was an economist for the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy in New Delhi, India and then a consultant and researcher for the World Bank. She began her career in State government as a Research Associate for the State and Local Expenditure and Revenue Policy Commission (SLERP) and then joined Treasury as a Project Specialist and later a Supervising Tax Analyst for the Office of Tax Analysis in the Division of Taxation.
Madhusudhan is an adjunct professor at Rutgers University’s Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, where she has taught graduate level courses in public policy and economics and state and local public finance. She is currently serving on the editorial board of Public Budgeting and Finance journal and enjoys various volunteering activities.
